Argyle Arches
When I first arrived in Glasgow, I spent the first few days wandering around the City Center streets trying to get a grip on where all the essential stores are, and that is when I stumbled across the Argyle Arches. You can take one guess as to which street it is on. Although it is on one of the most known streets in Glasgow, it is not the easiest place to spot. It is tucked away under the Glasgow Central bridge next to a small Tandoori-type take away place. Inside you will find a top-notch coffee shop that deliver all the best choices, except iced coffee, at a reasonable price. Although the sizes are a bit on the smaller side, they are perfect for a rainy Sunday afternoon. Under the second Arch you'll find a seating area for adults who have their kids with them, its a great spot for children of all ages with plenty of room for them to run around!
As you walk through the second arch, you're met by 5 or 6 different food vendors. They are pretty consistent with attendance, but some weeks they make changes. Not only are there different vendors, but they each offer a few different selections from their menus. You'll find home-made pasta, fried chicken, a vegetarian burger stand, and my personal favorite: the shawarma wrap booth. Everyone who works there is extremely friendly and helpful with any questions you might have about their foods.
After you pick out your lunch, they have a full bar serving up any cocktail you can imagine along with a solid selection of beer. Most of their beer products are Innis and Gunn, which is brewed fresh right across the room from the bar. The Argyle Arches is an excellent and affordable spot to go with friends on the weekend, by yourself, or with the spouse and kids. It is only open Friday-Sunday, so be sure to stop in to start or end the weekend!
